Repast: Dining Out at the Dawn of the New American Century, 1900–1910
Before celebrity chefs and the Food Network, before even Julia Child picked up an apron, America was dining out and nurturing its own national cuisine. In Repast: Dining Out at the Dawn of the New American Century, 1900-1910, Michael Lesy and Lisa Stoffer take you on a tour of American dining’s earliest days, from the slaughterhouse to the Waldorf-Astoria. Featuring fascinating menu reproductions from this era, this book explores the unexpected connections between the food culture of the early twentieth century and the present.
Tickets to events held at the James Beard House cover the cost of food and a unique dining experience. Dinners are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. All alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.
