November–December 2008
After graduating from Philadelphia College of Art, painter Natasha Harsh moved to New York City. It was in her first studio, overlooking Union Square, that Harsh became intrigued by the “organized chaos” of the bustling farmers’ market going on below her. Harsh began to create an ever-evolving series of oils, watercolors, and etchings to evoke the abstract qualities she saw in the piles of produce. When asked to define her style of painting, she describes it as conceptual realism, but says that she prefers to let the viewers make their own deductions. “My ultimate goal is to evoke a basic, familiar, responsive chord in the viewer, which to me means the painting has stirred the imagination and successfully captured the essence of its subject.” Harsh’s work has been featured in the New York Times, Brooklyn Magazine, Food Arts, Art Business News, and in 2005’s "Best of New York Artists and Artisans.”

Located in the reception space where guests mingle and meet before meals, the Greenhouse Gallery exhibits the works of up-and-coming and established artists who work with culinary themes. Providing artists with a complimentary space to show their work not only enhances the overall ambience of the room during events, it’s also in keeping with the Foundation’s mission to celebrate, preserve, and nurture America’s culinary heritage and diversity. Past exhibits have featured mouthwatering food photography, romantic watercolors of mealtime still lifes, and exuberant mixed-media collages.
