Portuguese Heritage, Refined
A professional chef for over 30 years, Guida Ponte frequently finds culinary inspiration in her vibrant Spanish and Portuguese heritage. This spring Guida and co-organizer Phyllis Kaplowitz are bringing fellow members of the Culinary Guild of New England to the Beard House, where they will prepare an elaborate menu that’s rich with Iberian influences. The Ultimate Pairing: A Tasting with Junior Merino
Join the JBF Greens, the James Beard Foundation’s community of foodies under 40, for the ultimate tasting experience! Master mixologist and chef Junior Merino, a.k.a. the Liquid Chef, masterfully fuses his bartending arsenal, his talents in the kitchen, and his experience as a sommelier. For this special dinner at the historic James Beard House, Merino will prepare a nine-course tasting menu that showcases his innovative and exotic approach to food and drink: each dish will be paired with a cocktail or wine, and will also highlight spirits. Greenhouse Gallery
Artist Shawn Kenney draws on many influences for his paintings, including the Baroque-era works of Velazquez, Mexican folk art, the music of Brian Eno, and more. He received his B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently lives in the greater Providence area, working as an art director, designer, and illustrator for children’s toy packaging. He has a long-standing passion for all things culinary: when he’s not in his studio, he’s experimenting in the kitchen or poking around his vegetable garden.

Friends and fellow JBF Award winners Michael Solomonov and Ana Sortun share a passion for Middle Eastern cuisine and its arsenal of spices. For this unique Beard House dinner, the duo will highlight these vibrant seasonings in a menu of mezze, the communal small plates of the region.

Salute to Asian Spice
What’s hotter than chef Hooni Kim of NYC’s Michelin-starred Danji and Sang Yoon of L.A.’s impossible-to-get-into Father’s Office and Lukshon? The spicy meal these two deeply talented chefs will cook together, drawing from the most boldly flavored cuisines throughout the Asian diaspora and accompanied by desserts from renowned pastry chef Pichet Ong.
