Ex-pat Elizabeth Bard thought she had the life of her dreams with a gorgeous French husband and a home in the heart of Paris, but a chance trip to Provence on the eve of motherhood proved the start of a brand new chapter. In her new memoir, Picnic in Provence, Bard details the highs and lows of life as a new mom, a nascent entrepreneur, and a American negotiating Provencal culture and cuisine.

You’ll be dining on the French-Italian border at this dinner, which will be hosted by esteemed West Hartford chefs David Borselle of àVERT, a French brasserie, and Dorjan Puka of the Italian-Mediterranean Treva. The meticulously crafted menu will feature alternating courses inspired by the foods of each country.

Oaxaca has long been known for its rich and revered culinary traditions (think pungent moles, smoky mezcals, spicy tamales). For this Beard House dinner, Oaxaca-born chef Mel Mecinas, who trained under Joachim Splichal and has been with the Four Seasons for almost two decades, has designed a menu to celebrate the foods of his native region.
