The From Scratch Sessions: Baking with One Girl Cookies
Join the James Beard Foundation Greens (foodies under 40) and One Girl Cookies for the next workshop in our From Scratch Sessions Series. Join us for this intimate hands-on class taught by chef/owner Dave Crofton at One Girl Cookies’s Cobble Hill location. Greens members will get the chance to make One Girl Cookies’s famous Pumpkin Whoopie Pies and learn expert piping and baking tips, all while sipping wine and beer. Go home with the delectable fruits of your labor, along with recipes from the One Girl Cookies cookbook.

60 Years of Michael's
Thirty-five years ago, Michael McCarty opened his eponymous restaurant in Santa Monica and put Southern California cooking on the map. The pioneering farm-to-table restaurant and its New York counterpart, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this month, launched the careers of chefs like Jonathan Waxman, Mark Peel, and Ken Frank and fundamentally influenced the country’s culinary evolution.

Enlightened Eaters: Food Chains

Produced by Eva Longoria and Fast Food Nation’s Eric Schlosser, Sanjay Rawal’s new documentary Food Chains reveals the real cost of our groceries through an in-depth look at the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, a labor group of tomato pickers from Florida. This powerful film highlights the triumphs and tragedies of the individual farm workers who put the food on our plates. Enlightened Eaters is an educationally minded series of readings, workshops, discussions, and other programs focusing on health, nutrition, sustainability, and environmental issues.

At Portland, Maine’s intimate Piccolo, chef Damian Sansonetti and wife/partner Ilma Jeil Lopez pay homage to the rustic, soul-satisfying cuisine of Central and Southern Italy with great care and passion. For this Beard House dinner, the former Bar Boulud chef de cuisine will return to his roots with a tantalizing menu inspired by the rich flavors of Italy’s Calabria and Abruzzo regions.

Food Gifts for the Holidays: A Children's Workshop
Don’t order that fruitcake just yet! Bring the kids to the Beard House to make delicious edible holiday gifts for teachers, friends, and everyone else on your list. Presented byChopChop, the 2013 JBF Publication of the Year award winner, this workshop will teach children four creative recipes that are sure to become year-round family favorites. JBF Award winner and former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses will be on hand to help with the festivities.
