After her childhood exodus from a war-torn Lebanon, food and travel writer Salma Abdelnour always dreamed of moving back. In her poignant book, Jasmine and Fire: A Bittersweet Year in Beirut, Abdelnour chronicles the complicated return to her beloved home and its vibrant food culture.
Tickets to events held at the James Beard House cover the cost of food and a unique dining experience. Dinners are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. All alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.

Beard on Books is an ongoing monthly literary series featuring readings and discussions with some of the food world’s most celebrated authors. Acqua Panna and S.Pellegrino waters, tea from Le Palais des Thés, and Lavazza Coffee will be served. Sweets provided by Three Tarts. Guests are also welcome to bring a brown-bag lunch. Suggested donation $20. Free admission for students.
