A Tasting and Cookbook Talk Exploring Food, Heritage and Design
Long known for being an award-winning fashion designer and lifestyle expert, Peter Som grew up in San Francisco cooking with his mother and grandmother. His early love of food and design has influenced his career pursuits and led to the 2019 launch of The Extra Taste, a culinary-focused vertical on Peter’s website which occupies a unique space at the intersection of the worlds of fashion, food, design and more. With his debut cookbook Family Style, Peter’s passion for cooking and his approach to food have culminated in recipes that pay homage to his identity, with nods to his Grandma’s Cantonese cuisine. The mingling flavors of Peter’s life inspired dishes like Cacio e Pepe Sticky Rice with Egg, Hoisin Honey Roast Chicken, and Lychee Lime Pavlova.
In celebration of Family Style, join Peter and writer and cookbook author Colu Henry for an intimate conversation about his intersecting identities as a fashion designer, culinary creator, and now cookbook author inspired by his effortless sophistication, love of family, and Chinese American heritage.

All reservations are non-refundable and must be made in advance. Should the event be cancelled due to any unforeseen circumstances, including COVID-19, JBF will offer a range of options, including ticket exchanges, the option to donate tickets, or a full refund. Tickets to events held at Platform at Pier 57 by the James Beard Foundation cover the cost of food, education and a unique dining experience. Meals are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. Unless otherwise stated, alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.
