Explore the History and Culture of Korean Side Dishes with Kisa’s Chefs
Led by the team from C as in Charlie and Kisa, the new Korean diner and 2025 James Beard Award Best New Restaurant semifinalist, guests will embark on a journey to discover the rich history, vibrant culture, and complex flavors of banchan.
Kisa's talented chefs will lead a banchan demonstration that explains the significance of each dish, from its regional roots to its preparation methods, revealing the balance of flavors that define Korean cuisine—sweet, salty, spicy, sour, and umami. Guests will also learn about the seasonal ingredients used in the banchan and how they play a pivotal role in Korean culinary traditions.
The event will feature a variety of authentic, seasonal banchan from Kisa’s menu, giving guests the chance to taste the vibrant array of flavors that define the restaurant’s approach to Korean dining.

Terms
Tickets to events held at Platform at Pier 57 by the James Beard Foundation cover the cost of food, education and a unique dining experience. Meals are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. Unless otherwise stated, alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.
