Coleslaw

Method

To make Langer’s popular Original 19 Hot Pastrami Sandwich, warm pastrami is layered onto twice-baked rye bread, slathered with Russian dressing, and finished with Swiss cheese and a scoop of their sweet-and-sour coleslaw.

  • 1 1⁄4 cups mayonnaise
  • 1⁄2 cup sour cream
  • 1⁄4 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 small head cabbage, shredded (about 2 pounds)
  • 1⁄2 red bell pepper, julienned
  • 1⁄2 carrot, julienned

Whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, vinegar, salt and 1⁄4 cup water in a medium bowl.

In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise mixture with the cabbage, red bell pepper, and carrot and stir to combine. The coleslaw can be made up to 1 day in advance and refrigerated.
