Limoncello Liqueur

Method

Salvatore Musso of Limoncello brought the classic Italian after-dinner drink to his Beard House dinner. His icy elixir is more refreshing than any typical lemonade—and considerably more powerful.

  • 1 quart 80-proof vodka
  • Peel of 5 lemons
  • Peel of 3 limes
  • 1 quart distilled water
  • 3 cups sugar

Mix vodka with lemon and lime peels and let stand in a jar for 2 weeks. Make a simple syrup by combining the water and sugar and bringing the mixture to a boil in a small saucepan. Cool the syrup to room temperature, add it to the vodka mixture, strain through a cheesecloth, and transfer to a bottle. Chill in the freezer before serving.
