Toronto Cocktail

Method

A pleasing balance of sweet and bitter, this cocktail is an excellent introduction to Fernet Branca, an Italian herbal liqueur.

2 1/2 ounces rye whiskey
3/4 ounces Fernet Branca
1 barspoon simple syrup

Pour the whiskey, Fernet Branca, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker or mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until the outside of the shaker is very cold. Strain the contents of the shaker into a coupe or rocks glass. Serve immediately.
